Short answers ... they seem so easy ... what is there not to understand ... WHY DO THEY STRUGGLE SO MUCH ?!?!?!? đ€đđ€
So my 5th graders had a progress check recently. All's good except for those freaking short answers. I honestly don't understand why it's such a problem for my kids to understand the logic behind short answers. But the fact of the matter is they don't and I have to do something about it.
You know I have my velcro cards. I love them, but some kids still can't transfer what they do with velcro onto a piece of paper. So I had a chat with every single student who still doesn't understand short answers and they reluctatntly agreed to being smothered with handouts next week đ
So I have spent 2 hours today creating those handouts. There are 10 different versions of the same set of questions. Each set is 14 pages long, including the same "title" page for each of them.
What comes after that are 140 pages of questions with 'be', 'have got', 'can', 'there is/are'. Sometimes they're all colour coded, sometimes black and white; sometimes apostrophes are provided, sometimes they're not; sometimes it's consistently 'yes', then 'no' answers, sometimes it's a mix. You get the point, right? Whatever the problem is, I have a handout for it! đȘđ»đȘđ»đȘđ»
So starting tomorrow, I'll be distributing these babies! Will the kids be happy .... ehmmmmm ..... well .... it's not always about fun đ
You can murder a child đ with 14 pages from one set or mix and match them. My plan is to give them a page from each set, starting with the simples one. Once they get all the answers right on the easiest set, I'll give them a page from the more difficult one and so on.
Desperate times call for desperate measures! Death by handout it is!! đđ«đ
Have fun creating,
Ewa :)
